Communities born on LIVES have a rare quality: they have watched someone work in public. They have heard broken voices, empty nights, progress. That memory cannot be bought.
It also has a limit. A community can love the person more than the work, or the habit more than the song. As long as the stream is on, the confusion holds. It shows the day you ask people to listen off the live.
Long time, for us, is not staying online as late as possible. It is turning a standing appointment into the wait for a record. That needs space. Absences. Releases that are not just souvenirs of an evening.
We respect people who hold a virtual room with regularity. That is a craft. It is not automatically ours. Our craft begins when that regularity can carry a repertoire, not only a presence.
If you already have an audience that returns, you have an advantage. Do not burn it by putting out anything “for them” too fast. Give them something that will follow them after you switch the camera off.
